September 9th (Wed) - Vehicle Inspection

In order to proceed to the dynamic inspection, the vehicle must pass all inspection items (technical inspection/tilt test/noise test/brake test).
This year, 58 teams passed technical inspection, and 53 teams passed all vehicle inspections.

After passing the technical inspection, tilt and noise test, and brake test, an inspection sticker is placed on the vehicle. Once the three stickers are complete, the vehicle can move on to the dynamic inspection.

technical inspection

Inspection of vehicle safety and design requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.

After passing the first hurdle, the technical inspection, each team took a joyful photo!

Tilt Test

The vehicle is tilted up to 60 degrees to check for fuel leakage and capsizing.

Noise Test

Confirmed that exhaust noise is below 110dB.

Brake Test

Check for all 4 wheels locking with full braking.
The final part of the vehicle inspection is the brake test. With all three vehicle inspection stickers in hand, it's time to move on to the dynamic inspection!

September 9th (Wed) - Static Examination

Static reviews include cost reviews, presentation reviews, and design reviews.

Cost Review

Budget and cost are important factors in running a production operation. The manufacturing cost of a vehicle is less than US$25,000.
We will review the cost accuracy of the cost report submitted in advance and its compatibility with the vehicle.

Presentation Review

This is a hypothetical situation in which the design of a new vehicle meets the needs of the amateur weekend racing market and the manufacturer's executives must be convinced that the vehicle can be manufactured and sold at a profit. Students' presentation skills will be evaluated.
The setting is a presentation to executives from a manufacturing company, and students wear suits to the judging session.

Design Review

Based on the design documents and vehicle submitted in advance, the applicant will be evaluated on what technologies have been adopted and what innovations have been implemented, and whether the adopted technologies are marketable and appropriate. There will be an oral examination on the appropriateness of the design of the vehicle body and components, as well as its innovativeness, workability, repairability, and assembly.

September 9th (Thursday) ~ Dynamic screening

Dynamic judging includes Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross and Endurance.

Acceleration Thursday, September 2008, 9, 11:8am

Acceleration from 0 to 75m. Two drivers from each team will run twice, for a total of four times, and compete for the fastest time.
Of the teams that passed inspection, 35 took part in the race.

Skidpad September 2008, 9 (Thursday) 11:8

Cornering performance evaluation using figure 8 course.
Each team had two drivers, who drove twice, for a total of four times, and the time was the deciding factor. 2 teams participated.

Autocross September 2008th, 9 (Thursday) 11:13~

The race involves two laps of a course that is approximately 1m long and includes straights, turns, slaloms, chicanes, etc.
Each team had two drivers, who drove twice, for a total of four times, competing for the best time. 2 teams participated.
In addition, starting from this year's tournament, "exhaust gas measurements" have been introduced as part of environmental measures.

Endurance: Friday, September 2008th and Saturday, September 9th, 14, 15:8am

Endurance, which can be considered the main event of the dynamic judging, is allotted the highest number of points of all events, 350 points (plus 50 points for fuel efficiency).
Participants compete over 22 laps (approximately 960m) on a varied circuit that includes straights, turns, slaloms and chicanes, and the cars' overall performance and reliability are judged.
Additionally, fuel economy is measured by the amount of fuel consumed while driving.
The competition started in order of autocross times. Over two days, September 9th and 12th, 13 teams took part, with 2 completing the race.
Each team demonstrated the results of their efforts over the past year in a time trial that lasted approximately 30 minutes.

September 9th (Sat) Group photo, design final, award ceremony

Group photo Saturday, September 2008, 9, 13:10

A regular feature of the tournament! A commemorative photo of all team members who participated in the tournament, the staff who helped out, and the sponsors all gathered together.

Design Final: Saturday, September 2008, 9, 13:11am

The top five teams from the first day's design judging will compete in the final judging on the last day, which will determine their final ranking in the design judging.
Each team from Sophia University, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Toyohashi University of Technology displayed their actual vehicles and gave a presentation to highlight their prized vehicles.

Award Ceremony: Saturday, September 2008, 9, 13:15

The awards ceremony to conclude the four days of fierce competition was held at the main venue of Ecopa Arena.
It was an emotional finale for both the participating athletes and the organising staff.
