Road Vehicle (TC22) standardization activities

JSAE standardization activities

JSAE is commissioned by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC) and serves as the mirror committee body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Road Vehicle Committee (TC22), dispatching members to international meetings, conducting corresponding national committees and subcommittees meetings, etc. It contributes to the international standards activities by undertaking secretariat/chairperson of subcommittees (SCs) and convenors of working groups (WGs) within TC22.

Furthermore, by drafting the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) and development our own standard JASO, we provide information to the entire automobile industry and consumers, and contribute to technological progress, safety, and production efficiency related to automobiles.

Information about autonomous driving

JSAE has revised JASO Technical Paper TP18004, "Level Classification and Definition of Automotive Driving Automation Systems," as a Japanese reference translation to match the latest edition of the original SAE J3016_202104. The revised translation was published on March 2022, 3, and is available free of charge on its website from today.

This technical paper is a Japanese reference translation of SAE J3016: Taxonomy and Definitions for Terms Related to Driving Automation Systems for On-Road Motor Vehicles, which is widely known as the autonomous driving level definition.
(TC204) / The driving control subcommittee (WG14) created and reviewed the Japanese translation, and the Autonomous Driving Standardization Study Group supervised it.

JASO Technical Papers (TP 22001:2022, TP 23001:2023, TP 24001:2024) Annex Data and FAQ

■JASO TP 22001:2022 “Guidelines for notifying customers regarding product/process changes for semiconductor devices”
■JASO TP 23001:2023 “Guidelines for notifying customers regarding product/process changes for electronic passive components”
■JASO TP 24001:2024 "Guidelines for quality verification methods for new adoption approval of semiconductor elements for automobiles"

Semiconductors and passive components for automobiles are increasingly being adopted in response to CASE, and have become important components that support the marketability of automobiles. Therefore, in the event of a sudden disaster or disruption of the global supply-demand balance, such as the effects of the recent coronavirus pandemic, efficient parts replacement is required to continue automobile production.

Regarding the target products and process change procedures, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA) exchanged opinions with ECU manufacturers and semiconductor/passive component manufacturers both in Japan and overseas to formulate a basic framework. The Association's Automotive Semiconductor Subcommittee under its Electronics and Electrical Equipment Division compiled the framework as standard guidelines for maintaining and strengthening the supply chains of car manufacturers, ECU manufacturers, and semiconductor/passive component manufacturers, and prepared the above-mentioned technical paper.
