This symposium is co-sponsored with the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and is held alternately every year.
Odd-numbered years are the main years for JSAE.
International competitions are held irregularly.

This is an international conference that focuses on technology related to small powertrains and energy systems for small engines other than four-wheeled vehicles and aircraft, such as motorcycles, agricultural machinery, generators, and outboard motors. This is a historic conference that has been held in various locations.

This conference has been co-hosted with SAE International since 2003 as the Fuels and Lubricants Meeting.
In 2009, the name was changed to Powertrains, Fuels and Lubricants Meeting to reflect the technological situation at the time, and when it was held in Japan in 2023, the name was changed to Powertrains, Energy and Lubricants Meeting.
In addition, when the SAE main event is held, it will be held under the name Powertrains, Fuels and Lubricants Meeting.

The first plenary conference was held in Yokohama in 1992, with the then Chassis Control Expert Committee taking the lead.
