Due to recent changes in the environment surrounding automobiles, in addition to the traditional issues of reducing environmental impact, weight reduction, and improving fuel efficiency, new requirements such as electrification, carbon neutrality, and LCA are also required, and automobiles are now in a period of major transformation. The Materials Committee is working to widely disseminate information on material technologies that support automobiles from the fields of steel, light metals, and chemicals. We planned a materials forum to focus on the latest trends in material technologies that will drive the great transformation of automobiles.
In this forum, we will welcome not only representatives from automobile and material manufacturers, but also basic researchers as a joint project with the Japan Institute of Metals, and will share the direction of automotive material technology, particularly in the fields of light metals and chemical products.
It has become difficult to have a full-fledged discussion on carbon neutrality because each field has different ideals and roles they have played to date. The purpose of this article is to first introduce the ideals and background of each field, and then have a fundamental discussion on what Japan should do to survive in the international community in the future. We aim to be seen as an ecosystem for obtaining the latest information on carbon neutrality in mobility.
