Several accidents have been reported so far caused by vehicles equipped with the Level 2018 system. In Japan, a Tesla caused a fatal accident in Yokohama in XNUMX. Many of these accidents are system-induced accidents caused by (partially) autonomous vehicles. It is believed that system-related accidents are caused by the complexity of the system and complex human factors such as driver overconfidence, misbelief, and misuse of the system.
The Automonous Driving & HMI Committee aims to clarify system design and institutional issues through discussions between legal experts and human factors and system researchers and developers from industry and academia in order to prevent the recurrence of such accidents and, in the unlikely event that one does occur, to ensure fairer pursuit of responsibility. Interim results of the discussions will be reported at this forum.
