Traffic Safety Committee

1.Aim of activity

The 11th Basic Safety Plan set the goal of reducing the number of fatalities within 24 hours to 2,000 or less and the number of seriously injured persons to 22,000 or less. These numerical targets are far different from the current situation, and more than ever, effective safety measures for each target accident are needed. In particular, major issues are ensuring the safety of the elderly and children, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and bicycles, and promoting the use of cutting-edge technology. In addition, as demonstration experiments of self-driving cars on public roads are progressing in Japan and overseas, there are reports of property damage and personal injury accidents occurring in Japan, and it is necessary to consider traffic accidents specific to self-driving. It is.
This committee believes that it is necessary to analyze the current situation and consider countermeasures from a new perspective, and will seek effective traffic safety initiatives that take a bird's-eye view of changes in social conditions and technological development.
