Motor Technology Committee

1.Aim of activity

The committee aims to contribute to the future development of motor technology by investigating the latest technology trends in drive (power generation) motors, which are at the core of EV/HEV electric powertrains, from the perspectives of material technology, design technology, cooling technology, etc., and discussing and examining these within the committee. In addition, the committee aims to contribute to improving the technical level of motor engineers by widely disclosing the specialized knowledge and developed products of committee members through seminars and technical sessions.

2.Chairman/Secretary (2024-25)

Chairman Toru Urano (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation)
Secretary
  • Kohei Aiso (Shibaura Institute of Technology)
  • Shingo Soma (Honda R&D Co., Ltd.)
  • Hiroyuki Hayakawa (Mitsubishi Motors Corporation)

3.Main target areas/matters

  • motor
  • motor drive system
  • inverter/converter
  • Motor characteristics
  • electric power conversion

4. Volunteer activities

In 2024, three activities will be held: presentation of topics, tours, and technical discussions. During the topic presentation, lectures were given by famous researchers on the latest materials technology and motor technology, and during the tour, participants were given a tour of the research facilities of researchers who are leading experts in motor research, as well as a tour of motor manufacturing technology and parts manufacturing processes. During the implementation and technical discussions, we will discuss future motor development trends based on benchmark results focusing mainly on motor torque density and output density.
