Diesel Engine Committee

1.Aim of activity

Although the internal combustion engine is at a once-in-a-century crossroads, engines, especially diesel engines, will continue to be used in a variety of fields other than automobiles. On the other hand, the drastic reduction of CO100 emissions derived from fossil fuels is also an urgent issue, so the use of carbon neutral (CN) fuels and improvements in energy consumption rates are especially desired. Diesel engines have a high potential for reducing CO2 emissions in Well-to-Wheel or Life Cycle Assessment (even in the future, they will be fully comparable to fuel cells and electric vehicles), and further improvements are expected in the future. This committee focuses on the utilization of CN fuel in diesel engines, further fuel efficiency improvement, fuels and injection systems directly and indirectly related to exhaust purification, which has been an issue in the past, spray combustion, and other engine element technologies. We will investigate and collect the research and development status of cutting-edge technologies in Japan and abroad in a wide range of fields surrounding diesel engines (vehicles), such as exhaust aftertreatment systems and system control systems, and provide topics and discuss them within the committee. We will also proactively disseminate information to society with the aim of sustainable technological development into the future.
